How to find us
There is limited public transport in the countryside of Suffolk but there is a good train service into Diss Station (15 mins away). London Liverpool Street station to Diss takes 1 hr 35 mins. If coming from the North you can connect to Diss station via Norwich station. There are also very good connections via Stowmarket. Please plan via Trainline. If you are coming into Diss by train and you are staying within walking distance of Lilac Cottage Studios we will happily provide complimentary transport to and from the station. There is also a good taxi service available in the area (please ask for recommendations).
If you are arriving by car Lilac Cottage Studio has off-road parking for approximately five cars. Please use a map or GPS – Garden House Lane is on the right if approaching from Bury St Edmunds or on the left if approaching from the Diss direction. After turning into Garden House Lane, Lilac Cottage, is the cream/white house on your right just after the turning to Wheatfields (DO NOT TURN RIGHT, GO PAST WHEATFIELDS). The property is sideways onto the road.
You can access the studio via the steps up to the pedestrian gate and when through the gate the studio is on the left (walk round to the entrance). Or via the vehicular access just past the garage on the right. Please park here if you are able then walk up the slope, the studio will be on your right.

The Surrounding Area
Rickinghall and Botesdale (we dare you to try and work out the border between the them!) are two charming villages on the old London to Norwich coaching route. Now bypassed by the A143, they are quiet and peaceful places boasting two charming Inns (one with accommodation), a Fish and Chip shop, a Chinese Restaurant and a supermarket. Set in rolling countryside you are only ten minutes away from the market town of Diss, 25 minutes from the Cathedral town of Bury St Edmunds and 50 minutes from the ancient city of Norwich once the second capital of England. The beautiful Suffolk Coastline of both Southwold and Aldeburgh is only an hour away.
Our Accommodation Recommendation.
Relaxing country getaway with woodburner.
Lovely cottage in the small village of Hinderclay in the countryside with beautiful walks on the doorstep. 15 minutes from the market town of Diss with direct rail connection to London and 30 minutes from the beautiful Georgian town of Bury St Edmunds with its Regency theatre.
For those of you that require accommodation for the courses please see below for a list of local places to stay. The Bell is the closest being only a 5 minute walk. The following four hotels are all about a 10/15 drive and all have parking.
These places are just suggestions to save you some time researching, we do not take responsibility for any problems you may experience whilst staying at any of these accommodations.
